LIV Golf has done some good things for the game and for some of its top stars, it has been a platform to bigger and better things.

However, right now, it has an issue which it has to hope resolves itself before it ends up doing their tour more damage than good.

As everyone in golf knows, LIV players do not currently qualify for OWGR points and as such, many rely on past endeavours, exemptions, or qualification to get into the majors.

That’s led many to believe that when it comes to the biggest four tournaments in sport, that LIV’s players are left coming up short due to their 54-hole format and lack of competitive edge.

Sure, there are anomalies such as Bryson DeChambeau, who consistently performs well.

But when it comes to the top LIV player right now, Joaquin Niemann, the Saudi-backed tour have an issue which could well cause them problems long-term.

Why LIV Golf have a big problem with Joaquin Niemann

There is absolutely no questioning the golfing ability of Joaquin Niemann. Not one bit.

He is now a seven-time winner on LIV, oozes class when he plays on their tour, and is ultimately one of the top names among some big hitters on there.

However, there is a glaringly obvious issue when it comes to Niemann. His major form.

As of now, Niemann has not made a splash at any of the majors in his career with his best performance being a T8 at the PGA Championship.

But while some may argue that Niemann’s success on LIV Golf is to the benefit of that tour and the detriment of the PGA Tour, it’s actually a bit more complicated.

Joaquin Niemann could end up damaging LIV Golf’s reputation

The counter-argument to that of Niemann being nothing but a success story for LIV is that he just that, a success story for them.

His failure in the majors is only further highlighting to the critics of the LIV tour that the best players on there simply fall by the wayside when the pressure is on.

Sure, Niemann is winning by four and five shots in LIV events but is that as impressive as Scottie Scheffler doing it in the majors, when it really matters? Hardly.

Furthermore, it actually damages LIV’s reputation as a tour further the more he fails to show up when it counts.

Until then, and with nine months until we arrive back at Augusta National, Joaquin Niemann could actually be damaging the LIV reputation, rather than enhancing it.

Of course, this is not the fault of player, not one bit. The Chilean is a class act and clearly, with time, he would win on the PGA Tour and contend in majors.

But as it stands now, he’s simply not producing when LIV need him to and until he does, question marks over both Niemann and LIV as a tour will remain.
