After a mixed start, TGL showed much more of its potential on Monday, as Tiger Woods’ Jupiter Links team got the better of Rory McIlroy’s Boston Common in a thriller in the SoFi Center.
TGL desperately needed a match to go the distance after some real teething problems in the opening weeks. There had even been concerns that the simulator was not working properly after Tiger Woods‘ debut.
But the overtime win for Jupiter showed what TGL could grow into.
There are still problems to address, such as the depth throughout the league. Of course, all 24 players are outstanding. However, some are better suited to the format than others, and it feels important for the league that it leans into the entertainment side.
Bryson DeChambeau comments on the idea of playing in TGL
With that, there have arguably been some interesting comments from Bryson DeChambeau this week. DeChambeau has become LIV Golf‘s biggest success story, while he is potentially the current game’s most popular player.
DeChambeau is no longer a PGA Tour member. However, speaking in a press conference ahead of the International Series India event, he has opened the door to the idea of featuring in TGL in the future.
“That would be interesting,” he said. “I think TGL has an interesting opportunity. I’m all about anything to grow the game, so if it’s helping grow the game, fantastic. I don’t know all the numbers behind it.

“Would it be fun? Yeah, it could be fun. I don’t know if they’d pick me though, I have no idea. I’ve got a [LIV] team over here, the Crushers GC, come on. The Crushers would be a part of that!”
The chances of DeChambeau playing in TGL in the future would surely depend on the PGA Tour agreeing a deal with the PIF, which opens the door for the game to come back together.
Obviously, there has to be a massive question mark over how the tours co-exist once an agreement is reached. There is surely not enough time in the calendar for the PGA Tour, LIV Golf and the DP World Tour to host so many events while also presenting chances for the best players to come back together.
But, as far as TGL – which has partnered with the PGA Tour – is concerned, it seems a no-brainer to get DeChambeau involved at the earliest opportunity.
How a LIV Golf team for TGL could potentially look
A LIV Golf team could fast-track the process of building some of the rivalries TGL will hope to have in the future. They could even play the role of pantomime villains as they go onto enemy turf.
Whatever you think of LIV, there are definitely some entertaining characters. They could go for a star-studded lineup with the likes of Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton – who were scheduled to play in the original event.
And if they wanted to opt for the biggest characters on LIV, the likes of Phil Mickelson and Pat Perez – who remains connected with the league – would definitely bring entertainment.
None of this is likely to happen while the stalemate between the tours seemingly continues. But once that deal gets across the line, it should arguably be one of the first moves made to give DeChambeau that chance to get involved with TGL.
