If anyone is capable of beating John Daly’s world record drive on a runway, Kyle Berkshire is the man for the job.

Berkshire is the longest hitter on the planet and has won the World Long Drive Championship four times in 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2023.

Meanwhile, Daly was widely regarded as the longest hitter on the PGA Tour throughout his prime.

The ‘Wild Thing’ is one of the most naturally talented players to have ever graced the game. Daly once beat Tiger Woods by six shots while still drunk, and his nonchalant attitude towards playing has always been the envy of his peers.

Daly claimed that he regularly used to clock up 200mph+ ball speeds when he was at his best. While that is debatable, his extraordinary length was never in doubt.

Back in the day, Daly was the longest driver of the golf ball by quite some distance. However, as time has moved on and technology has progressed, the now 59-year-old’s length off the tee has been made to look fairly ordinary.

Back in the 1990’s, Daly drove the ball 806-yards on a runway in LA, according to Essentially Sports.

That record has stood right up to the current day; that is until Berkshire attempted to beat it.

Berkshire took part in a feature ‘World’s Longest Golf Shot’ video on Ian Poulter’s YouTube channel.

The goal was not only to beat Daly’s 806-yard record, but to break the 1,000-yard barrier as well.

Berkshire, 28, already holds the world record for the longest drive on a golf course after he hit the ball a whopping 579 yards in 2023, with a 241.6 mph ball speed.

However, that drive paled into insignificance in comparison with the drive he hit on a runway.

Berkshire recorded a 1,060-yard drive. He carried the ball over 400 yards through the air and got more than 600 yards of run.

What an incredible show of power that was from Berkshire, and he has now set a record that may not be beaten for quite some time, if at all.

John Daly’s exceptional PGA Tour average driving distance record

Until Tiger Woods came onto the scene, Daly was streets ahead of everyone else when it came to long hitting off the tee.

In fact, even with Woods in the mix, Daly was still the longest driver of the golf ball, by a considerable distance as well.

Here are his average driving distances during a 12-year period from the early 1990s on into the 2000s.

Those average distances are unbelievable really, considering the equipment Daly would have been using during that period.

However, while Daly was the longest hitter in his time, Berkshire has taken things to a whole new level over the past few years.

And the fact that the powerful 28-year-old beat Daly’s runway record by more than 250 yards proves just how long he is.
