The United States were beaten by Europe yet again in the Ryder Cup last week at Bethpage Black.

That’s 11 wins for Europe in the last 15 editions of the Ryder Cup and it’s fair to argue that the competition actually means more to them than it does to the United States players.

The Ryder Cup at Bethpage was overshadowed by unsavory behavior from some of the fans in attendance.

It was a huge shame, because some of the golf on display at Bethpage Black on Sunday really was incredible to witness.

As the European dominance of the Ryder Cup continues to roll on, let’s look back at one American golfer who actually possessed a fantastic record in the competition, but he hardly ever gets spoken about.

He’s the only American to feature in the Ryder Cup top-10 % points won list

The top nine spots on the list of players who’ve won the highest percentage of points at the Ryder Cup are Europeans.

That sums up just how dominant they have been in the competition over the past four decades or so.

Perhaps the most surprising thing about the entire list is the fact that the only American who features on the list is Tom Kite.

While he was a very solid PGA Tour player, he was hardly a superstar, and perhaps that’s where the US have gone wrong at the Ryder Cup.

There may well be a need for more gritty competitors than purely just the best golfers in the world. It may sound silly saying that but something needs to change, right?

Here is the top 10 list of players who’ve won the highest percentage of points from the matches they’ve played since 1979.

The stats of the European players on that list really are remarkable to see.

The challenge for the United States now will be to get more of their players up on that list over the next few editions of the competition.

Tom Kite is one of the most underrated Ryder Cup golfers in history

Tom Kite enjoyed a wonderfully successful career during his time on the professional golf circuit.

He won 19 times on the PGA Tour, including his dramatic US Open victory at Pebble Beach way back in 1992 and his Players Championship triumph in 1989.

Kite actually has 37 worldwide professional victories to his name, and he appeared on seven US Ryder Cup teams as well as captaining the side in 1997 at Valderrama.

The now 75-year-old is a highly respected figure in the game, and his Ryder Cup record was truly sensational.

That record is a seriously impressive one. If any of the modern-day American players possessed a record like that, we would be swooning over them.

Kite deserves huge praise for what he managed to do for the USA at the Ryder Cup throughout his career but unfortunately, his achievements seem to have been forgotten about by most.
