One of the most remarkable moments of the PNC Championship came during the second round as Charlie Woods made his first ever hole in one with his dad Tiger Woods looking on.
Nothing sums up the luck involved with getting a hole in one than the fact that Tiger Woods has not had an ace in a PGA Tour event since 1998. It is simply unbelievable that the 15-time major champion has not had anymore since that year’s Sprint International.
What may perhaps be a little more believable is that no-one playing with Woods managed to make a hole in one for the best part of the first two decades of his career. Playing alongside Woods must be extremely intimidating, even for some of the best on the planet.
But that run ended during the final round of the 2015 Wyndham Championship.

It was a frustrating Sunday for Woods at that year’s Wyndham Championship. His final round 70 saw him finish four shots behind eventual winner Davis Love III.
It was a slightly more successful week for Scott Brown, who registered his best finish of the season at Sedgefield as he finished in a tie for third alongside the likes of Charl Schwartzel and Paul Casey.
And there is no question where the highlight came, as he made a hole in one on the third hole. And speaking after his round, he suggested that Woods told him it was the first time he has ever had to mark an ace on the scorecard.
“Yeah. Obviously playing with Tiger and he said that’s the first one he’s ever written on the scorecard so that’s pretty cool,” he said, when asked about the hole in one.
“It’s awesome. Anytime you make a one it’s such a bonus. It’s pretty cool. It was obviously electric, the atmosphere being with Tiger, the whole crowd he draws here is so awesome and so good on him to play here. It does so much for this community. It was electric when I made it,” he would add.
The PGA Tour career of Scott Brown
Brown registered one win on the PGA Tour, which came in his debut season at the 2013 Puerto Rico Open. Funnily enough, one of the runner-ups was a teenager by the name of Jordan Spieth.
He missed out on a second PGA Tour win in 2017, when he and Kevin Kisner were beaten in a play-off in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans by Jonas Blixt and Cam Smith. That year also saw his best finish in a major as he ended up in a tie for 13th at the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow. He has not played in either the Masters or the US Open.
Brown missed 11 cuts in 16 events on the PGA Tour in 2023, and he only featured twice in 2024, also missing the cut on both occasions.
Nevertheless, you will struggle to find a more impressive hole in one record than Brown’s. He made two in 2014 and two in 2015. And quite incredibly, he would make another ace on exactly the same hole on Sunday at the 2016 Wyndham Championship.
But it is hard to imagine that any will have been quite as meaningful as the hole in one he made alongside Woods in 2015.
