The 2025 Ryder Cup has almost arrived, with the United States and Europe renewing their rivalry at Bethpage Black.

Europe have been backed to win the Ryder Cup, which would represent the first away success since 2012.

Back then, Jose Maria Olazabal guided the visitors to the Miracle at Medinah, where Europe overcame Davis Love III’s United States.

But all focus is now on Bethpage Black, with Keegan Bradley looking to clinch Ryder Cup success over Luke Donald.

The former has replaced Zach Johnson in the captain’s seat, while Donald has retained his spot from Rome in 2023.

He is the only American golfer to hit a hole-in-one at the Ryder Cup

There could be very little separating the two talented sides in New York, with every shot likely to count for something.

And so a hole-in-one could be huge in helping clinch success, although they have been extremely rare over the years.

Just six players have hit Ryder Cup hole-in-ones, and only one of them has been produced by an American golfer.

That came from Scott Verplank at the 2006 Ryder Cup, when he holed out on the 14th hole at The K Club.

It arrived during his Sunday singles clash with home favourite Padraig Harrington, and helped the American clinch a 4&3 win over the Irishman.

What was Scott Verplank’s record on the PGA Tour?

Verplank’s ace is also the most recent in Ryder Cup history, but unfortunately for his team it mattered very little at the time.

Despite his individual heroics, Europe stormed to an 18.5 to 9.5 win over the United States, led by captain Ian Woosnam.

Fittingly, an emotional Darren Clarke inspired his side to success, in what was the first Ryder Cup played in Ireland.

But Verplank left with a little piece of history, with his compatriots now undoubtedly eager to do the same at Bethpage Black.
