Golf is a truly baffling game at times. One minute you think you have it cracked and the next you don’t know which direction your ball is going to fly.
Even PGA Tour superstars struggle at times, and it is usually those who have endured pain in the past who come out the other side and become greats of the game.
Some of the greatest golfers in history have completely lost their games at times, including the likes of Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood, David Duval and Ian Baker-Finch.
Baker Finch went from winning The Open in 1991 to never tasting success in a professional golf event again.

However, sometimes players struggle to make their mark initially, before going on to completely turn things around.
And one player in particular embodies what it means to go through plenty of pain before reaping his rewards for all of the hard work he put in.
Justin Rose missed 21 consecutive cuts before winning the US Open and 11 PGA Tour events
Englishman Justin Rose burst onto the scene in professional golf 27 years ago, when he had a real chance of winning The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.
He was just 17 then, and ended up finishing in a tie for fourth, two shots adrift of eventual champion Mark O’Meara.
Incredibly, when Rose turned pro back in 1998 the day after The Open finished, he immediately went on to miss 21 consecutive cuts.
However, that run of hard knocks clearly was what made Rose the golfer he is today.
It is often said that human beings are unable to fulfil their true potential without experiencing some kind of suffering along the way.
And that certainly applies to Rose.
The 44-year-old Englishman has forged a hall of fame career over the past two decades.

Rose lost to Rory McIlroy in a play-off at The Masters in April, and he finished runner-up to Xander Schauffele at The Open last July as well.
He definitely deserves to win at least one more major before he retires.
Justin Rose’s incredible career on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour
Rose’s struggles earlier on in his career obviously helped him go on to achieve what he has in the game.
The Englishman has won 11 PGA Tour titles and has one major championship to his name, after he was victorious at the US Open at Merion in 2013.
He won an Olympic gold medal in Brazil in 2016 as well.

The 44-year-old has a long list of other achievements to his name as well.
He has played for Team Europe at six Ryder Cups – four of them on the winning side.
Rose also won the FedEx Cup in 2018, and topped the DP World Tour order of merit back in 2007.
He has enjoyed a truly exceptional career, and does plenty of admirable work off the course with charities as well.
Looking back at his difficult start to life on tour, he will now surely be grateful that he had to go through that baptism of fire first before achieving greatness.
