The beauty of golf is that there is not just one way to do things.

Numerous different methods work, and we will see plenty of weird and wonderful styles at the US Open at Oakmont this week.

One thing’s for sure, we are in for some seriously exciting viewing at the US Open.

The greens at Oakmont are said to be lightning fast and they are incredibly undulating as well.

They will undoubtedly cause the players all sorts of problems this week.

Meanwhile, the six-inch rough is thick and dense, which means we will see plenty of hack outs sideways this week.

And aside from the top stars in the game today, there will be plenty of lesser known names garnering attention from fans and the golfing press alike.

Unique Austen Truslow in the field for the US Open at Oakmont

Austen Truslow, 29, will tee off in the last group at Oakmont on Thursday, alongside Harrison Ott and George Duangmanee.

This won’t be Truslow’s first experience of playing in the US Open – he played at LA Country Club in 2023.

Many of you will not be familiar with Truslow, but after this week is done, his name will be far more recognisable.

That’s because he goes about his business in a completely unique way.

We’ve all seen the likes of Matthew Fitzpatrick and Justin Rose chip cross-handed.

However, Truslow takes it to another level entirely. The 29-year-old chips one-handed, and it is something he has been doing for a long time now.

However, it is worth noting that the thickness of the rough at Oakmont may well mean that he has to chip with two hands like everyone else this week!

Everything you need to know about Austen Truslow

Truslow qualified for the US Open at Emerald Dunes Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, earlier this month.

He posted rounds of 68 and 66 before winning a play-off to book his ticket for Oakmont.

The man from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, attended Rollins College in Winter Park – a town just outside Orlando.

Truslow has played eight PGA Tour events in his career, making only one cut at the Puerto Rico Open in 2019 where he finished in a tie for 10th.

He has jumped between the Korn Ferry Tour and the PGA Tour and has been playing the Asian Tour over the past two years, where he has three top-20 finishes in 21 starts.

The 29-year-old is clearly trying everything he can to reach the next level, and he is not afraid of putting in the hard yards by traveling the world in order to fulfil his dream of making it on the PGA Tour.

It will be really interesting to see not only how Truslow performs at the US Open this week, but also whether he uses his one-handed chipping method out of the rough at Oakmont.
