Tommy Fleetwood triumphed at the Tour Championship this year, and was named as the FedEx Cup champion as a result.
The FedEx Cup first debuted on the PGA Tour way back in 2007, when Tiger Woods ended the year as the champion.
Since then, the concept, and indeed the format, has chopped and changed, with the PGA Tour powers that be always struggling to get it just right.
The PGA Tour were told they need to make a big change to the FedEx Cup playoffs this year, when Rory McIlroy skipped the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis.
The PGA Tour were said to be unhappy with McIlroy missing the first playoff event.

So changes could be incoming in 2026. However, it’s fair to suggest that there will still be some fans who are unhappy with the format, whatever changes are made.
It was the same back in 2011 when Bill Haas came out of nowhere to scoop the biggest prize of the season outside the major championships.
Bill Haas’ fall from grace since FedEx Cup win
It was back in 2011 when Bill Haas, son of legendary PGA Tour stalwart Jay Haas, won the FedEx Cup after storming through the field to win the Tour Championship at East Lake.
The FedEx Cup points system was heavily weighted towards the playoff events then, similar to the present day with the winner of the Tour Championship scooping the FedEx Cup prize as well.
He posted rounds of 68, 67, 69 and 68 to end the week in Atlanta at eight-under par.

Haas is probably most remembered for his up and down out of the water on the second playoff hole against Hunter Mahan at East Lake that year.
Interestingly, it was his only win all season, although he did record seven top-10 finishes that year.
The now 43-year-old has won six times on the PGA Tour and he represented the United States on three separate Presidents Cup teams.
However, the past six years or so have been barren to say the least for the man from Charlotte, North Carolina.
His last top-10 finish on the PGA Tour came at the John Deere Classic in July 2019 when he recorded a T-10.
Bill Haas’ results since his last top-10 finish on the PGA Tour
Haas has experienced all sorts of problems on the PGA Tour over the past six years.
Here are his results since his last top-10 finish at the John Deere in 2019:
| Results | Haas’ totals since last top-10 finish |
| Events played | 102 |
| Top-10s | 0 |
| Top-25s | 7 |
| Missed cuts | 57 |
Haas only played seven PGA Tour events in 2025, so he’ll be desperate to work hard during the off-season and bounce back next year.
Judging by his last 102 results though, that will be far easier said than done.
