The United States have to make some big changes ahead of the 2027 Ryder Cup.
After Europe’s win at Bethpage Black last month, the United States have now won only four of the last 15 editions of the Ryder Cup.
Keegan Bradley made some terrible decisions in his role as captain, but many of the US team simply didn’t perform anywhere near their best levels.
There were some big-name players missing at Bethpage, while some of the main men on Bradley’s team were desperately out of form.
Stewart Cink wants to captain the US Ryder Cup team in Ireland, and he would be a great selection.

However, gathering together the right 12 players who are ready to win an away Ryder Cup for the United States for the first time since 1993 will be a much tougher challenge.
The key for the US will be for some of their best players over the past decade or so to rediscover their very best form.
Five American major champions who could miss the 2027 Ryder Cup
Some of America’s most dominant golfers have been really quiet over the past 12 months or so.
Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa were part of the 2025 Ryder Cup team, but they headed into the competition with just one win between them since October 2023.
Thomas didn’t play too badly at Bethpage and ended the week with a 2-2-0 record. However, he was nowhere near his best.
Meanwhile, Morikawa played just like everyone predicted he would, with two losses and a half from the three matches he played.
The two Americans, both two-time major champions, have been nowhere near their best for quite some time now.
A lot of hard work will be needed during the off-season if they are to rediscover their best stuff in 2026 and on into 2027.
The same can be said for Jordan Spieth, who missed out on the Ryder Cup team at Bethpage for the first time in 11 years.

The 32-year-old from Dallas is winless since April 2022, and he has been a shadow of his former self over the past few years.
Spieth is the kind of player who thrives in a Ryder Cup environment, and he has been a crucial member of the US team behind closed doors as well, by all accounts.
The United States Ryder Cup could well look completely different at Adare Manor in two years’ time.
However, if some of the stars from the 2021 Ryder Cup get back to their best, it could actually be a very familiar-looking side.
Two American LIV golfers would change the 2027 Ryder Cup dynamic
Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka both failed to win on LIV Golf in 2025, and they have been complete shadows of their former selves over the past 12-18 months.
Johnson has a terrific record at the Ryder Cup – one which currently stands at 12-9-0 – and Team USA need characters like him back in the side.
Koepka also has an impressive Ryder Cup record, with seven wins, six defeats and two halves in the 15 matches he has played.
Russell Henley, Ben Griffin and Sam Burns have all played very well over the past year but ask any European golfer whether they’d like to face one of those three players or come up against Johnson and Koepka.
I guarantee you they would prefer to take on one of the PGA Tour players mentioned above.
Johnson, Koepka, Spieth, Thomas and Morikawa are all multiple major champions and on their day, they are all as good as anyone.
However, without showing any kind of form, none of those players will even be considered for the team at Adare Manor in 2027
